   To sense a sound with ears.

   Korean definition: 귀로 소리를 알아차리다.

   • 지수는 귀가 예민해서 작은 소리도 잘 듣는다.

     Jisu has sensitive ears, so she hears even small sounds well.

   • 그의 피아노 연주는 듣는 사람을 편안하게 해준다.

     His piano playing makes those who hear it feel at ease.

   listen to

   To listen carefully with strained ears to others' words or sounds.

   Korean definition: 다른 사람의 말이나 소리 등에 귀를 기울이다.

   • 학생들은 선생님의 설명을 집중해서 들었다.

     The students listened attentively to the teacher's explanation.

   • 일을 제시간에 끝내지 못한 사원의 변명을 듣던 김 과장이 화를 냈다.

     Section Chief Kim got angry while listening to the excuses of the employee who failed to finish the work on time.

   follow; obey; heed

   To follow what others say.

   Korean definition: 다른 사람이 말하는 대로 따르다.

   • 유민이는 어렸을 때부터 부모님의 말을 잘 듣는 아이였다.

     Since childhood, Yumin has been a child who obeys her parents.

   • 선생님의 말을 안 듣고 자주 말썽을 부리던 친구가 어느 날부터 변하기 시작했다.

     A friend who never listened to the teacher and often caused trouble began to change one day.

   For a machine, equipment, etc., to operate normally.

   Korean definition: 기계, 장치 등이 정상적으로 움직이다.

   • 말을 잘 듣던 세탁기가 갑자기 왜 이러지?

     The washing machine was working fine, so why is it acting up all of a sudden?

   • 오래 써서 그런지 청소기가 이제 말을 안 듣네.

     Maybe because I've used it so long, the vacuum cleaner doesn't work properly anymore.
