   To put an ingredient in boiling oil, so that it inflates.

   Korean definition: 끓는 기름에 넣어서 부풀게 하다.

   • 승규는 햄버거에 콜라와 튀긴 감자를 곁들여 먹었다.

     Seunggyu ate a hamburger with a cola and fried potatoes.

   • 분식집 아주머니가 고구마를 끓는 기름에 튀겨서 고구마 튀김을 만든다.

     The lady at the snack bar fries sweet potatoes in boiling oil to make sweet potato fritters.

   pop

   To heat dried grains, etc., making them inflate.

   Korean definition: 마른 곡식의 알 등에 열을 가하여서 부풀게 하다.

   • 아주머니가 튀긴 쌀알을 엿에 버무려 강정을 만들었다.

     The lady mixed popped rice with syrup to make gangjeong.

   • 뻥튀기 기계에서 '뻥!'하는 소리와 함께 튀긴 강냉이가 쏟아져 나왔다.

     With a 'bang!' from the popping machine, popped corn came pouring out.
