   To cook food over a fire.

   Korean definition: 음식을 불에 익히다.

   • 옥수수에 버터를 발라서 구워 먹으면 맛이 좋다.

     Corn tastes great if you spread butter on it and grill it.

   • 그는 평상을 펴고 앉아 불판에 삼겹살을 굽고 있다.

     He has set up a wooden platform and is sitting there grilling pork belly on a grill plate.

   burn; make

   To make charcoal by burning wood.

   Korean definition: 나무를 태워 숯을 만들다.

   • 십여 개의 굴에서 숯을 굽는 검은 연기가 뿜어져 나온다.

     Black smoke from charcoal making pours out of a dozen-odd kilns.

   • 그들은 산 속에서 숯을 굽고 옥수수를 경작하면서 생활했다.

     They lived in the mountains making charcoal and growing corn.

   To heat earthen bricks, pottery, etc., so that they are hardened.

   Korean definition: 흙으로 만든 벽돌이나 도자기 등이 굳도록 열을 가하다.

   • 그녀는 내게 직접 구운 그릇을 선물로 주었다.

     She gave me a bowl she had fired herself as a gift.

   • 그는 전통 방식 그대로 가마에서 도자기를 구워 낸다.

     He fires pottery in a kiln using exactly the traditional method.

   To make salt from seawater by exposing it to the sun or putting it over a fire.

   Korean definition: 바닷물에 햇빛을 쬐거나 불을 때어 소금만 남게 하다.

   • 그는 절에서 대나무로 소금을 굽는 일을 했었다.

     He used to work at a temple making bamboo salt by roasting it.

   • 소금을 굽는 사람은 비가 안 오게 해 달라고 빌게 된다.

     Salt makers end up praying for it not to rain.
