   To let someone realize or know what he/she did not know or forgot.

   Korean definition: 모르던 것이나 잊었던 것을 깨닫게 하거나 알게 하다.

   • 나는 집에 계시는 부모님께 오늘은 외박을 한다고 미리 알렸다.

     I told my parents at home in advance that I would stay out tonight.

   • 우리는 신문사에 편지를 써서 우리의 억울한 사정을 세상에 알릴 계획이었다.

     We planned to write to the newspaper to let the world know about our unjust situation.

   advertise; publicize

   To tell someone about something so that he/she knows it.

   Korean definition: 다른 사람에게 어떤 것을 소개하여 알게 하다.

   • 그는 자기 회사 제품을 소비자에게 알리기 위해 홍보 활동을 하고 있다.

     He is carrying out promotional activities to make his company's products known to consumers.

   • 학생들이 자기 학교에서 미술 대회를 연다고 알리는 포스터를 벽에 붙였다.

     Students put up posters on the wall announcing that their school is holding an art contest.

   To indicate or show a certain fact or phenomenon.

   Korean definition: 어떤 사실이나 현상을 나타내거나 표시하다.

   • 자정을 알리는 시계 소리에 나는 순간 잠이 깼다.

     The sound of the clock signaling midnight woke me in an instant.

   • 귀뚜라미 소리와 서늘한 바람이 드디어 가을이 왔음을 알렸다.

     The chirping of crickets and the cool breeze finally signaled that autumn had arrived.
