   To fix something broken so that it can be used again.

   Korean definition: 고장이 나거나 못 쓰게 된 것을 손질하여 쓸 수 있게 하다.

   • 나는 손재주가 좋아서 고장이 난 물건을 잘 고친다.

     I'm good with my hands, so I'm good at fixing broken things.

   • 승규는 전원이 들어오지 않아 사용할 수 없는 친구의 컴퓨터를 고쳐 주었다.

     Seunggyu repaired his friend's computer, which wouldn't power on.

   heal

   To cure a disease.

   Korean definition: 병을 낫게 하다.

   • 민준이는 병원에서 큰 수술을 받고 허리 디스크를 고쳤다.

     Minjun had major surgery at the hospital and got his herniated disc cured.

   • 나는 아내의 병을 고쳐 보려고 유명한 의사를 찾아 전국을 다녔다.

     I traveled all over the country looking for famous doctors to cure my wife's illness.

   correct; reform

   To put something right.

   Korean definition: 잘못되거나 틀린 것을 올바르게 하다.

   • 나는 다리를 떠는 버릇을 고치기 위해서 노력했다.

     I tried hard to break my habit of jiggling my legs.

   • 이 글에는 오타가 많기 때문에 책으로 출판하기 위해서는 많은 부분을 고쳐야 한다.

     This text has many typos, so a lot of it must be corrected before it can be published as a book.

   change; modify

   To make something different from its previous state or form.

   Korean definition: 전과 다르게 바꾸다.

   • 아버지는 집을 한옥에서 양옥으로 고치기를 원하신다.

     Father wants to change the house from a traditional Korean hanok into a Western-style house.

   • 이번에 회사의 규정을 많이 고쳤기 때문에 직원들이 혼란스럽지 않도록 바뀐 내용을 잘 홍보해야 한다.

     Since many company rules were changed this time, the changes must be well publicized so employees won't be confused.
