그만두다

   stop

   To stop and to not do what one has been doing.

   Korean definition: 하던 일을 중간에 그치고 하지 않다.

   • 아버지는 입맛이 떨어지셨는지 갑자기 식사를 그만두셨다.

     Perhaps having lost his appetite, Father suddenly stopped eating.

   • 그는 다니던 직장을 그만두고 조그만 옷 가게를 열어 장사를 한다.

     He quit the job he had and opened a small clothing store to run a business.

   stop

   To not do what one has to do or plans to do in the future.

   Korean definition: 앞으로 할 일이나 하려고 하던 일을 하지 않다.

   • 실패할 것이 뻔히 보이는 일이라면 미리부터 그만두는 것이 좋을 것이다.

     If it's something that is clearly going to fail, it's better to stop it from the start.

   • 손님이 온다는 소식에 나는 하려던 목욕을 그만두고 우선 장부터 보러 갔다.

     Hearing that guests were coming, I gave up the bath I was about to take and went grocery shopping first.
