   To experience something difficult or important.

   Korean definition: 어렵거나 중요한 일을 당하여 경험하다.

   • 세계적 경제 위기로 자동차 수출에 어려움을 겪고 있다.

     Due to the global economic crisis, car exports are going through difficulties.

   • 집을 나서는데 아이가 울면서 떼를 써서 한바탕 난리를 겪었다.

     As I was leaving the house, the child cried and threw a tantrum, so I went through quite an ordeal.

   get to know; be acquainted with; get along with

   To be acquainted with someone and spend some time with him/her.

   Korean definition: 사람을 사귀어 지내다.

   • 사람은 직접 겪어 보지 않고는 모른다.

     People can't know without experiencing it themselves.

   • 그를 겪어 보고 나니 그렇게 험한 일을 할 사람이 아니라는 생각이 들었다.

     After getting to know him, I came to think he wasn't the kind of person who would do such a terrible thing.
